Photos--Ferry/Mackinaw--Snow and Ice
Thank you to Linda Wolf, Harsens Island Post Mistress, for sending these pictures. Linda took these with her cell phone when she made her escape from the island today. The pictures with both ships Linda calls "the ferry and the cutter doing synchronized boat-capades".

This is pretty amazing...Despite the inconveniences, there is no place that I would rather be. As my boss said when I sent him an email that I needed to take a break to move my car to the mainland in case the Coast Guard shut down the ferry..."That sounds like a line from a movie."
Of course, he is on his way to cancun for a company paid vacation, but it speaks volumes of the way we choose to live our lives. Most people can only dream of living in such an amazing place.

Jus got word from Marine City. The river is only open in spots, up to lake huron. The boats are working the river tonite, and into the lake where there is ice. It all has to go somewhere, and it sure isnt going to flow upriver.

According to the scanner, (from the ferry pilot) the ferry is running. They said they didn't think they would have any trouble all day.

H.I. Ferry Resumes Operation
The Harsens Island Ferry has resumed normal operations as of 6:15 am.
Just wondering if anyone has an update..it's past 6:30am and I need to get to the mainland.

Please remove your bickering from this blog! I don't want to have to sort through relevant comments about the island from your childish name-calling.
Very well said Mel. May I suggest removing the option of signing Anonymous as a user. This has gotten out of control with name calling and so on. Venting is one thing but this is not what I like to read about the island. Soap operas are on TV in the afternoon, turn them on if you need drama.
You were being nasty...you don't have a nice thing to say about the Island People...Just go away! You are not an Islander!! so I don't want to talk to you ...Your opinion is null and VOID..BYE BYE!!
oh and my life is very full...I do feel sorry for you...you must have no friends...that's why you are here...so someone will talk to you...i think this is the only way you can get someone to talk to you...and i fell for it..got me.....but i am done with you, because now i am just wasting my time...sorry to my Fellow Islanders for all this...maybe if i stop talking to the idiot they'll go away..I HOPE! But i felt sorry cause they have no one else to talk to...but now they are just insulting us..The Island is wonderful and the People are Awesome...I Love being a part of this friendly compassionate community...Have a Great Day everyone....PEACE OUT!

Our day would be much greater if you who are arguing like you belong on Jerry Springer or worse yet, an MTV show about pregnant teens, would just stop and grow/class it up a bit.
