Editors note: This post entered at 7:43pm, but set time to keep at the top of the page. Updated 7:52pm, 8:05pm, 8:30pm, 10:00pm ...looks like that is it for tonight...unless???
10:00pm: Well...the ice has formed a bridge at the usual curve in the North Channel at Algonac, pointe Duchene, Old Henry's area. Water at the ferry is once again dropping. We're good for now. Ferry is running at this time.
8:30pm : Clay Township just put a police car on the Island and told Jim Zawada, on deck, that the ice is just now coming into Algonac and it's heavy! Thanks for the update Gail!
According to Chuck Miller the water level started rise at Harsen's Isand around noon today.
There is an abnormally large amount of vehicles exiting the Island.
A friend's sister watched the cutters working in St. Clair this afternoon, said the ice was massive, didn't budge until all of a sudden ....and then just starting moving.
I'm trying to get more on all this but can't seem to get in contact with someone who KNOWS. Will keep trying and post here as I get more information.

We normally do not post rumors, but someone out there must know something....because the comment boad is ominously silent.....like everyone has left the buiding!
I would hate to have people stuck here without a car on the other side while we were waiting for concrete information!
I sure hope this means we'll still be able to get across tomorrow sometime! It's a bit late now to try to get our stuff together and leave the island if the ice is already here... what a winter!
I so appreciate the information that comes across this website!! Just wanted to thank you Melon, for your time and effort to keep all of us informed....
Melon, thanks for the updates. Does anyone know if garbage will get picked up?
