According to David Bryson, of Champion's Auto Ferry, the ferry to Harsen's Island wil remain closed on Monday due to the US Coast Guard ice operations on the North Channel. He stated the USCG will be leaving on Tuesday.
The airboat run by David's brother, Bob Bryson, will be operating on Monday morning from 6am to 8am, and again Monday evening from 5pm to 7pm.
The Harsen's Island/Clay Twp airboat will be available for emergency transport.

With that news we're all going up to the Sans Souci...see you there?
This is totally ridiculous
I wrote to the USCG....and this was my response....a bunch of whoo haaa..
Dear Sir or Ma'am,
The U.S. Coast Guard is working to alleviate ice jams in the St. Clair River to mitigate the possibility of flooding in the norther region. Ice breaking efforts conducted over the weekend resulted in moving the sothernmost ice jam 2 miles south to help prevent rising waters from reaching the flood stage.
It is the Coast Guard's understanding that a sea plane is available to transport people to and from Harsens Island while ferry service is affected. The Coast Guard is working as quickly as possible to alleviate the ice jams and allow for the continued service of the Harsens Island Ferry.
Respectfully,
Petty Office Brandon Blackwell, USCG
We have a Sea Plane?? Is that a new term for an air boat??
Whats happening at the turnaround...with all that pipe and the airboats from Bob Bryson and our fire department..going into the Old Club?
Construction of the tower on Gull Island for Border Patrol/Homeland Security.
Thank you..Sue..!
Again I will ask, WHAT RISING WATERS????
The bad thing about all this is wait until the spring, when it warms up and the ice really starts to move and come down. I suspect the coast guard will be doing this off and on for the rest of the winter. I dont know what they expect people to do, and furthermore its a bad deal all around especially with the airboat working on thhe gull island project. The government not only controls the ferry righht now, but also the airboat. This isnnt over yet and it wont be for awhile.
Motel 6 has rooms for $33/night! Linda (THE resource QUEEN)
I did write them back and informed them of the false info they have about the Sea Plane!! lol
Where is the motel 6?
I was wondering where the closest Motel 6 was also, so I did a Google search. Closest one to us is I-696 and VanDyke in Warren. Others are in Detroit, Auburn Hills and farther.
Homeland Security is going to build a 4400 foot long pipe that will supply the power to the Gull Island Tower and someone has to take workers and equipment to island.
I just want to say that the water at my house on the S. Channel is at least 1 1/2 feet lower in one day than it was the day before. Something is wrong somewhere. The Coast Guard states they are trying to PREVENT flooding, so perhaps no one is seeing flooding YET. Maybe due to their efforts, they never will. And I am not an engineer, nor, I doubt, is anyone complaining about the CG's operations. I dont mind being "stuck" here...I knew it could happen, and I prepared for it. And I really dont understand why people who dont live on the island are bitching about it. I also think the ferry will run when they can, they want to make money and have employees to consider.
Chillax!!!
@ S
I TOTALLY see what you are saying...being stuck over here on the Island is part of it...i absolutely know that and deal with it and have been my entire life. I Love the Island and would Not want to live anywhere else...BUT! all this playing in the North Channel isn't doing any good....Now they are talking about coming back...why??? because all that running back and forth did NOTHING...the water levels are still way low..it never did any good back in 1984 when we were jammed in for a month....i for one wish they would have accomplished something...but they didn't!
They need to try something else..
I do mind being stuck here...especially if it is for unnecessary reasons..DUMB! I am also prepared for all this...but when i know that the ferry can run but we are being stranded over here because of the Coast Guard...that ticks me off!! I know the ferry will run when they can...David has been arguing the same point with the USCG that i am arguing!!I have a life and would like to get back to it!!
Oh, and for the ones bitching that don't even live over here...Just blow them off...as far as i'm concerned..they have NO say!
the asshole coasties don't seem to realize the ICE JAM is north of port huron. because the water is low all the way back to port huron. All they are doing is making worse down river. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!
