Coast Guard Working North Channel

The Neah Bay is in the north channel working the ice, the wind is NW, the south channel is open. Hopefully these conditions will work in our favor and the ferry will be able to run soon.

As soon as we know something we'll pass it on.

The ferry message says the airboat has stopped running due to lack of interest, and that if conditions are not improved by this evening at the ferry, the airboat will likely run again if there is a need for it.

It also said that they don't intend to open until later this afternoon at the earliest, and to check back after lunch.

The Mobile Bay went down Middle Channel and now the ice is moving pretty well!

Shouldn't be too long then, as there is open water in Algonac and the winds are northwesterly. Positive thoughts!!!

Last I heard, North Channel wasn't moving but there was an open spot above the ferry

I just seen a salt truck on the island from the county about 11 am.Do we have one we keep on the island?

Yes there is a County salt truck/snowplow on the Island. Daryl Dupage arranged this a couple of ice jams ago...good thinking huh?

It's unfortunate that the roads still get plowed while the ferry is closed. It makes it difficult to run sleds on the main roads, and what else are we supposed to do while waiting? lol
