Sure would like to know where the rising water is. I'm in St. Clair and it isn't here.
Another waste of tax dollars by clueless idiots.
yea, they keep including that language yet I've heard reports from actual citizens all the way up to port huron and they all say no high water- in fact everyone is reporting low water.
Any HIN readers on the mainland and along the river towards PH want to comment??
I am a mainlander who has been traveling to Port Huron from Algonac for the last 3 weeks. There is no flooding anywhere along the way. This ice breaking is a waste of tax money and a major inconvience for the people on the Island. I have two elderly parents over there with health issues and they are quite used to ice jams but why cause one unnecessarily. It is very stressful.
I dont see how they can say it worked. They didnt do anything before. And we all can see the water isnt getting higher. Even up as far as St. Clair, its the as here. I dont know where theyre coming from in this, and I dont get it.
I'm watching the cutter comming back up the middle channel. They went out to the lake and are right in front of minnick's
The contact link in the Coast Guard News Release is an Email link.
Perhaps some Emails to the USCG might be in order?
I sent my 2 cents to them...everyone should!!
It doesn't have to be long...
Tracy- do you know which one it was?
At about 1:20- 1:40 we watched 102 bristol bay comeup to the boys club and turn around and head back downstream while 107 (couldnt make out name) was going from boys club upstream into algonac/tip of russel.
Just received a message from a friend of mine in Lexington, North of Port Huron, and water is low there as well.
Just thought some of you out there who have scanners and are not aware of the marine channels to listen to the Coaast Guard and the Canadian cutters, Sarnia traffic, and the ferry when they get back up and running, would like to know this information. It's quite entertaining at times. So here are the channels for your listening pleasure:
156.350 - Channel 7
156.400 - Channel 8 commercial
156.450 - Channel 9 calling (all)
156.550 - Channel 11 Sarnia traffic
156.600 - Channel 12 Sarnia traffic
156.650 - Channel 13 ships bridge
156.700 - Channel 14 ferry
156.800 - Channel 16 distress calls
157.000 - Channel 20 port ops
157.050 - Channel 21 CG cutters
157.100 - Channel 22A CG after 16
157.150 - Channel 23 CG
157.075 - Channel 81 CG
157.125 - Channel 82 CG
157.175 - Channel 83A CG auxillary
Sometimes they'll (CG) say: Switching to 22 Alpha. That's what the "A" means on Channel 22A.
So snuggle up in front of the fire, have a beer or two, or go to the Sans Souci with at least a modicom of correct information when the topic comes up - which I guarantee it will - about what the Coast Guard is doing in the river and the progress - or lack thereof - they are making. And remember: "Take time to laugh - for it is the music of the soul."
107 Cutter is PENOBSCOT BAY (WTGB 107)
Hey, Melon. Where's the confounded spellchecker???? I just noticed "Coaast" should be "Coast" and "modicom" should be "modicum" in my last post. Now that I've posted all the marine channels, it is eerily silent on the scanner. Oooops! It's 4:00 p.m. Just heard a peep. I guess they're still out there.
Sorry Gail...no spellchecker for my posts either!
You'd think google would have this all figured out!
spell check's been workin for me- it highlights and underlines in red if a word is misspelled while typing.
Can anyone recommend a good scanner, preferably a hand-held one and can they get digital stuff too?
We just came back for a ride up to Marine City and the river is open about half. The canadian cutter is working up by the State Park to get it flowing further down.
Can someone please post the address for the Coast Guard. When I click on the link in their news release, it wants to take me to Outlook and I don't want to use that for email. Thanks.

The more they cut and chop the ice, the slower the flow of water. If the ice were to remain flat and smooth...well you can take it from there. This was and is (this time)do to freighters and Coast Guard. Thanks again USGC.
In regaurds to the water...It must be restricted. The water on the Old South Chl is at least 1 1/2 feet lower since the water back up. So it's slowing down somewhere
Happy Valentines Day everyone!!!
what time will the airboat be running tomorrow(Monday morning)?
How late is the airboat running tonite?
Well if it isn't anonymous again...LOL
The airboat is running until 6pm tonight
Melon,Sorry for signing anonymours but I was on my husband was waiting impatiently on the 4 wheeler to take me to my mothers for Valentines dinner. We don't have a car with gas in it so I just wanted to ask the question in a hurry so I could let my brother know. Chill
just joking with you....it's become a thing around here...like "what did anonymous say today"
OK, I have been researching all I can find online about the local water levels for the great lakes. There is a ton of info online. try this site:
http://www.lre.usace.army.mil/hh/GreatLakesWaterLevels/GLWL-CurrentMonth-Feet.pdf
I can find no evidence that there is any flood threats anywhere in the great lakes chain north the Algonac, that I can find.
Is there any chance the guys wanting to build the bridge are 'influencing' the Coast Gaurd to muck things up? Also, they keep talking about rescuing trapped ships from the ice on the Coast Gaurd website. Who pays for that? Tax payers or the trapped vessel? Running all these ice breakers has to be costing a fortune, so who is authorizing it?
I have been trying to assemble crews to work on my cottage on Harsens Island, and on two weekends recently, we have had to cancel plans at the last minute. It is a big commitment for friends to give up a full weekend to help out, and then to have them clear thier schedules with the families and find out they can't get out there is a pain.
I give full support to Champions, by the way. They seem willing to go thru more ice than I would with my boat. They are trying hard to stay open as much as possible.
