JoJo made the comment and I think it's worth sharing. I, too, looked at the MODIS shot and feel the same way!!!

SO on yesterdays MODIS shot, it looked like MOST of the ice is gone! I am saying it now: WE are in the clear for this year!

Friday Update

The message from Champion's office says ferry will run tonight, every half hour after midnight.

All cars need to be out of the mainland parking lot by the end of the weekend so a tanker can deliver fuel.

We will update with news if/when it is received.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Ferry Is Running

Ferry is running, not too much ice flowing at this time, but as we all know, things can change rapidly.

Ferry Closing Tuesday Evening 9:30

The ferry will close this evening at 9:30 and open at 6 AM tomorrow morning as long as there is no ice jam.

USCG Ice Update

Good Afternoon Everyone, We've been conducting flushing operations now for 2 days in the North and Middle Channels as well as flushing in the South Channel. We have the CGC MORRO BAY, CGC BRISTOL BAY, and the CCGS SAMUEL RISLEY working at these efforts to keep the ice flowing out through the flats and into Lake St Clair. We are expecting a lot more ice coming down as winds shift to the NE and it warms up. There is still a very substantial amount of ice in lower Lake Huron. To give you an idea, there is currently more ice up there than the total area of Lake St Clair. We will continue to update you as we see over the next several days how the ice deteriorates and moves into the river. Have a good night!

Ferry Running

The ferry is running this morning. Message at Champion's office says they expect things to go well, but the river is half full of ice and conditions can change rapidly, so check back often.

Ferry Closing Tonight

The ferry will not run tonight and will close at 9:30 PM and begin running again at 6 AM tomorrow.

Ferry Is Running!!! Open Water!!!

Ice is gone and ferry is running and the news is that there should be no problems today at all.

If anything changes we will update, but for now things are looking good.

FYI Only: Just looked at the cameras in Port Huron and ice is on it's way down again. We have no way of knowing whether or not it will be bad enough to stop ferry service, but be aware that the ice conditions can change rapidly (like yesterday). For now all is well and we are hopeful that it will stay that way.

Ice Breaking Update for the Upcoming Week...

Hello Everyone,

Starting Monday morning, we will be conducting major ice breaking operations throughout the lower river system to include the North and Middle channels. We will work with the Harsens Island Ferry operators to minimize impacts to operations with the ferry and airboat operations.

As information comes up or needs updating, we will pass as we can. Have a great weekend and try to stay warm through these lower than average temps!
